Portuguese, born and living in Lisbon. I’m a creative, and sociable person, with more than a decade of teaching experience. I strive to always find the best way to explain language points, using different strategies for different students. I really hope I can reach my goals by helping you to discover this beautiful language and culture. I love my work!

I teach Portuguese as a foreign or second language to those who want to speak with their family, friends, co-workers, etc. The goal is always to be able to keep a good conversation and foster understanding, so it is fundamental to try to speak in Portuguese from day one.

How to pronounce
words in Portuguese?

It’s really hard to understand some Portuguese words, especially because we tend to join two or more words when we say them. They sound like a single word! This awareness is important so that you can recognize the individual words when you read them or when you hear them.

How to spell
Portuguese words?

You should get an understanding of how letters and words are articulated during the process of speaking, and observe them in isolation as well as combined in sentences. Then, by trying to reproduce them in your oral utterances repeatedly, you will gradually manage to write these words correctly.

How to learn grammar?

Grammar is the less attractive part, but it’s the base of any language. With Portuguese Quest you will learn grammar in an interactive and diversified way, where each rule is followed by an exercise.

How to go deep into
Portuguese culture?

We are a small country, but with a lot to do and see. On Portuguese Quest we are going to talk about the geography, gastronomy, literature, art and history of this beautiful country, “”a small garden planted by the sea” (Tomás Ribeiro).
You can be anywhere in the world and be connected. You save so much time with this type of classes, you’ll not waste time in traffic and you only need under 5 minutes to enter the class. In terms of interaction, don’t worry, because you’ll interact with me and with your colleagues as if you were in an in-person class. We use several learning materials and although they will be used online, you can download them before the class
You prefer to have the full attention of the teacher and want her to constantly adapt the lesson plan to your own pace of learning and to your demands.
It’s great to have another person at the same level as you, sharing your doubts and thoughts during the class and still have a personalized class as much as possible.
You also learn from colleagues’ questions and doubts, and you love to interact with people during the classes. The groups are really small and will not hinder your individual learning. You’ll have time to participate constantly and you’ll save money.

My husband and I started taking Portuguese language classes from Paula 2 years ago. She does an excellent job designing and presenting material to people with different learning styles and exposure levels to foreign languages. In preparation for a planned trip to Portugal, Paula tailored our lessons using topics that we thought would be helpful during our travels. While in the Ilhas dos Açores, my husband was able to act as a translator for a German traveler who also spoke English and the Portuguese-speaking rental car agent! Paula is patient, kind and takes the time necessary for her students to understand the material in each lesson. Our trip has now past but the lessons proceed as we continue to learn the language and look forward to talking to our friend, Paula, in Portugal. We highly recommend Paula to anyone wanting to learn, speak and write European Portuguese!

Paula is an amazing teacher! I have been learning with her for over a year and I feel a lot more confident and fluid when speaking Portuguese.
